A Vocational Evaluation is a systematic approach designed to assist individuals obtain an understanding of the world of work by looking at their interests, skills, aptitudes, capabilities, potential limitations, behaviors, environment, resources, accommodations, and more. A Vocational Evaluator or Vocational Evaluator Assistant conducts the Vocational Evaluation based on the referral questions/information sought from the referral source.

  • A Vocational Evaluation is a tool and the completed report provided by the Vocational Evaluator can be used as a guide to assist Rehabilitation Counselors with developing rehabilitation plans with a vocational goal that is feasible.

  • Providing a Vocational Evaluation may bring out potential skills and talents of an individual that have never been fully explored before. These skills and talents could turn into viable vocational goals.

  • A Vocational Evaluation may confirm a vocational goal based on the planning efforts by the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor and the consumer(s).

  • Inclusivity is strived for when doing a Vocational Evaluation.

  • A Vocational Evaluation is a great tool to use to assist in determining if a consumer is a candidate to pursue academic education/training, whether they have transferable skills for employment, if part-time/full-time work is preferable, and it can make recommendations to potentially identify ancillary services.
